TouMaLi project presence at UfM events
7th meeting of the UfM Economy (2023) & 2nd UfM Stakeholder Conference on Sustainable Blue Economy (2024)
In the field of regional cooperation and sustainable development, the TouMaLi project has made great progress since being awarded the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) label in 2023. The UfM, an intergovernmental organization that promotes cooperation between 43 member countries in the Euro-Mediterranean region, focuses on initiatives with a tangible impact on citizens, placing particular emphasis on the involvement of young people and women. TouMaLi's commitment is perfectly in line with the UfM's objectives of stability, inclusive development and integration.
The project's recent appearances at two international events organized by the UfM underline its commitment to environmental sustainability and the blue economy. Firstly, TouMaLi contributed to the discussions on the region's transition to a green, circular and inclusive economy at the 7th meeting of the UfM Task Force on Environment in Brussels in November 2023. This meeting, which is crucial in the context of the UfM Ministerial Declaration on Environment and Climate Change, provided a platform for dialog on critical environmental issues and the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals. TouMaLi's participation underscored its commitment to supporting the GreenerMed Agenda 2030, with its focus on sustainable economic development.
Secondly, the project showcased its progress at the 2nd UfM Stakeholder Conference on Sustainable Blue Economy in Athens in February 2024. Hosted by Greece, this conference aimed to assess achievements, address challenges, and foster collaboration among stakeholders in the Mediterranean's blue economy sector. TouMaLi's contribution, led by Dr. Nour El Houda Chaher, highlighted the project's activities in Tunisia, Egypt, and Morocco, emphasizing its environmental, social, governance, and sustainable financing initiatives. Of particular focus was TouMaLi's role in tackling marine litter, a critical aspect of building a sustainable blue economy in the region.
As TouMaLi continues to progress towards its goals, its engagement with the UfM and other international platforms reaffirms its position as a key player in advancing sustainable development and environmental stewardship in the Euro-Mediterranean region. Through collaboration and shared commitment, TouMaLi and its partners strive to create a more resilient and prosperous future for all Mediterranean communities.
Stay tuned for TouMaLi´s attendance and contribution to the upcoming Med Green Week. Hosted by the OECD Global Relations Center in Istanbul, this event will bring together stakeholders to advance dialogue and action on climate, energy, environment, and more.
