CITET Launches the Support and Training Program for HoReCa in Tunisia - September/October 2024

As part of the TouMaLi project, CITET has initiated support and training activities for HoReCa establishments in Tunisia, aiming to improve waste management generated by their activities. ♻️
During September and October, an in-depth diagnostic was conducted for 20 partner tourist establishments, including 15 hotels, 3 restaurants/cafés, as well as the Société d’Études et de Développement Sousse Nord and the Port El Kantaoui Residents' Association. 🏨

Goal of diagnostic:
This diagnostic focused on the legal requirements for waste management and the purchasing practices of the establishments, which directly impact waste production. The evaluation covered several aspects: types of waste produced, production sites, flow identification, sorting systems, volume quantification, and existing reduction measures. Collection methods and associated costs were also examined.
The goal of this detailed diagnostic is to provide an accurate assessment, serving as a foundation for developing action plans to be implemented during the training and follow-up phases. 📋

Acknowledgement and next steps:
It is important to highlight the remarkable commitment of the HoReCa managers and staff. The individuals interviewed showed a keen interest in efficient waste management, responding immediately to improvement suggestions made during the diagnostic.
The next step will involve training the managers of the partner establishments. These training sessions will focus on the concept of efficient waste management, implementing specific action plans for each establishment, best waste management practices, and source reduction.
Regular follow-up will be ensured to guarantee the implementation of actions and continuous improvement of the environmental performance of the establishments involved. 🌍
