Transforming Hospitality: Sustainable Waste Management Training in Alexandria
Exciting News from Alexandria! 🌿
Beatrice Vanek and Omar Abdelrahman Abulheija from BlackForest Solutions GmbH, in collaboration with the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport, have embarked on a series of trainings for waste management practices in the hospitality sector of Alexandria, Egypt. From the 14th until the 19th of September 2024 they have been conducting impactful training sessions aimed at better segregation at source.
A New Era of Sustainable Practices
The training program is designed to transform hotel operations by equipping housekeeping and maintenance staff, waste management officers, kitchen staff, and hotel management with the knowledge and skills needed for sustainable waste management. The focus is on instilling a culture of sustainability within the hospitality industry.
Training Highlights:
🗑️ Introduction to New Waste Bins: Staff are being familiarized with color-coded waste bins to ensure separate disposal of different types of waste.
🔍 Waste Separation Guidelines: Clear, actionable steps are provided to staff for effective waste segregation.
📄 Distribution of Brochures, Segregation Posters, and Protocol Materials: Essential resources are distributed to equip staff with the necessary tools for sustainable practices.
🤝 Hands-On Training Sessions per Hotel: Practical, real-world applications engage staff in the training process.
📈 Capacity Building: Staff are empowered with the knowledge and skills needed for sustainable operations.
A City-Wide Initiative
The training team is visiting 23 hotels across Alexandria, including renowned establishments such as Mecca Hotel Alexandria, Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts, and Hilton Alexandria Corniche, among others. This initiative is part of the Universität Rostock's TouMaLi project, aimed at preventing tourism marine litter, further emphasizing the commitment to a sustainable future.
